San Jose Accident & Death: On Monday afternoon, a devastating wrong-way crash on Highway 85 in San Jose, California, resulted in the tragic deaths of a woman and a 14-year-old boy. The accident occurred around 3:50 p.m., just south of Highway 87, leaving the community in shock.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) began receiving urgent calls from motorists around 3:40 p.m. about a white Toyota Tacoma driving the wrong way on northbound Highway 85, near Saratoga Avenue. Witnesses reported the pickup truck speeding against traffic, creating a perilous situation for other drivers.
Just ten minutes after the initial reports, the situation escalated as the Toyota Tacoma collided head-on with a Tesla traveling northbound on Highway 85. The impact was devastating, and despite the Tesla’s safety features, the occupants—a woman and a 14-year-old boy—tragically lost their lives at the scene. The identities of the victims have not yet been disclosed, but their loss has deeply affected their loved ones and the community.
The driver of the Toyota Tacoma, 39-year-old Duncan McQuarrie, was critically injured and transported to a nearby hospital. Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the crash, including the possibility that alcohol or drugs may have been involved. The severity of the collision has led to a thorough investigation by the CHP, who are working to understand the events leading up to the crash.
The CHP is calling for any witnesses who may have seen the wrong-way driving or the crash to come forward with information. Those with details are encouraged to contact the CHP San Jose Area Office at 408-961-0900. The tragic loss of the woman and the teenager has deeply impacted the San Jose community.
