Dylan MacKinnon Death & Obituary: Dylan James Douglas MacKinnon, born on November 6, 1995, in Ontario, has passed away at the age of 28. Dylan was the beloved son of Anne and Jim, and the cherished brother of Jack. On August 4, 2024, after a brave and grueling nine-month battle with stage IV cancer, Dylan took his last breath, surrounded by love and holding hands with his devoted wife, Ashley.
A Devoted Public Servant
Dylan’s dedication to serving others was a hallmark of his life. He pursued a career as a constable with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), where he quickly became known as a leader and role model. His hard work, determination, and passion led him to the Emergency Response Team (ERT), where he endured and excelled in the notoriously difficult 10-week Basic course. Dylan’s commitment to public service and his community was evident in every aspect of his career.
An Athlete and Competitor
Dylan was a natural athlete and a fierce competitor. His talents extended to hockey, golf, shooting at the range, board games, and even axe throwing. He was unreasonably good at everything he did, demonstrating his competitive spirit and drive. On June 9, 2024, despite his illness, Dylan participated in the Miles for MacKinnon charity event, running 6km and helping to raise over $25,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society. This event highlighted his enduring strength and commitment to making a positive impact.
A Loyal Friend with a Heart of Gold
Beyond his professional and athletic achievements, Dylan was a devoted friend with a heart of gold. His loyalty and selflessness touched the lives of many. He always put others before himself, earning the love and admiration of those who knew him. His joyful spirit, unwavering support, and genuine kindness will be deeply missed by his extended family, colleagues, and a large contingent of friends.
Honoring His Memory
Friends and loved ones are invited to pay their respects at the DWAYNE D. BUDGELL Funeral Home, located at 1105 Rest Acres Road, on Friday, August 9, from 2 – 4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., officiated by Rev. Joel Sherbino of Paris Presbyterian Church. The service will be live-streamed starting at 10:20 a.m. Following the service, interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Paris, Ontario.
