Julia A. King Death & Obituary: Julia A. (Soucy) King peacefully transitioned from this life on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at the age of 81. Her life was a testament to faith, love, and dedication to her family and community.

Early Life and Religious Service

Julia was born on November 22, 1942, into the loving family of the late Frank W. and Mildred M. (Kavanaugh) Soucy in Watervliet. She was raised alongside her six siblings in a close-knit household and received her early education at the former Sacred Heart of Mary School and Watervliet High School. After graduating in 1961, Julia answered a higher calling and entered the convent, where she professed her vows as a Religious Sister of Mercy, known in religious life as Sr. Marie Cecelia. Julia devoted 22 years to teaching in various Catholic schools within the Albany Diocese, touching the lives of countless students with her kindness and wisdom.

Life After Religious Service

In 1985, Julia left religious life and embarked on a new chapter when she married Arthur King. The couple made their home in Kerhonkson, NY, and enjoyed 14 years of marriage before Arthur’s passing in 1999. During this time, Julia worked as an intake coordinator at Villa Veritas, demonstrating her continued commitment to helping others.

Following Arthur’s passing, Julia returned to her hometown of Watervliet in 1999. She continued her passion for education by working as a teacher’s aide in special education at St. Colman’s Home and later at Watervliet Elementary School. Julia retired in 2017, dedicating her time to her family and her parish, Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. She was an active member, serving on the prayer line and the Liturgy Committee, and was a pillar of support within her community.

Cherished Family and Friends

Julia was a beloved sister to Carol A. Gensicki, Sandra J. Bowles (David), Patricia A. Noonan (Robert), Frank W. Soucy, Jr. (Adela), and Mary Soucy Sawyer (Tom). She was predeceased by her brother Wayne Soucy, whose wife, Rina, survives. Julia’s extended family includes numerous loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews, all of whom she adored and who will deeply miss her presence.

Final Farewell and Memorial Contributions

A funeral Mass to honor Julia’s life will be celebrated by Reverend Donald Rutherford on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at 12:00 PM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, located at 25th Street and 7th Avenue in Watervliet. The Rite of Committal and inurnment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Watervliet. Friends and family are invited to visit with Julia’s family on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until 11:45 AM, prior to the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making donations in Julia’s memory to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 2416-7th Avenue, Watervliet, NY 12189, or to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 4 Oakland Avenue, Menands, NY 12204. These contributions will honor Julia’s legacy of compassion and service to her community.
