Jessica continued her studies at Northeastern University, where she deepened her knowledge and passion for psychology.

Jessica’s career as a school psychologist was more than just a job—it was her calling. She began her career in Waukegan before moving to Racine Unified in 2015. Jessica was known for her relentless advocacy for the rights of marginalized students, particularly those who were multilingual or had disabilities. She often put the needs of her students ahead of her own, making a significant impact on the lives of many young people.
Passion for Film and the Outdoors
Outside of her professional life, Jessica was a lover of movies, with a reputation for her impeccable taste in both classic and contemporary films. She had a talent for quoting memorable lines and found joy in singing and dancing. One of the highlights of her life was the adoption of Xena, a dog who became her constant companion on outdoor adventures. Jessica cherished exploring nature, with one of her favorite experiences being the ascent to the vantage point overlooking Wisconsin’s Devil’s Lake.

Jessica’s dedication to her family was unwavering. She became a supermom the moment her son, Armando, was born at 29 weeks, visiting the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) daily for two months. Her love and commitment ensured that Armando received the best care possible when he returned home. Even after receiving her cancer diagnosis, Jessica fought bravely, maintaining her humor and optimism throughout her battle.
Jessica is remembered by many, including her parents, Silvia and Fulgencio, her brother Santiago, her sisters Yaneth and Erika, her nieces and nephews Tito, Ivan, Jaylene, Enzo, and Zeke, her brother-in-law Epi, and her sister-in-law Daisy. She leaves behind her beloved husband Hector and their 10-month-old son Armando.

Funeral Arrangements
A funeral mass for Jessica Gutierrez will be held on Saturday, August 10, at 10:00 AM at Saint Family Catholic Church, 450 Keller Ave, Waukegan, IL 60085. A viewing will take place on Friday, August 9, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at McMurrough Funeral Home, 101 Park Pl, Libertyville, IL 60048. Following the Mass, the funeral will proceed to Ascension Cemetery.
