Rev. Wheeler’s military career began when he enlisted in the US Navy, serving in the Submarine Service from 1958 to 1962, where he achieved the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class. His commitment to service continued as he joined the US Air Force as an Air Force Chaplain, attaining the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. Alongside his military duties, Rev. Wheeler pursued higher education, earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine and a Master of Divinity from Bangor Theological Seminary.

(Michele) Wheeler, Jr. of Albany, NY, and Jennifer (Mark) Doesburg of Ballston Lake, NY; his brothers, Dr. David Montgomery, Timothy Montgomery, and Dr. Matthew Montgomery; his sisters, Micky Shifflett Decker and Terri Shifflett Lee; and his grandchildren, including Jonathan, Andrew, Jacob, Noah, Carter, Ellen, Alexander, Elliot, and Melena, along with one great-granddaughter and his beloved dog, Sadie. Rev. Wheeler was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Maryn Wheeler Surrey, who passed away on February 3, 2014.
